Real World in the Classroom

Rillito Park’s general manager, Michael Weiss, an alumnus of the RTIP plays the major role in connecting the students to Rillito. Weiss believes in giving them invaluable real-world experiences at the track while they are still in school. “Some may say, it’s just Rillito Park, not Belmont Park,” Weiss said. “It’s the same game, just different numbers. And sometimes at a small track you have to dig in and get dirtier, and that’s what these students have the opportunity to do.”

Weiss interviews interested students before the spring semester, helping to find the right fit for them at Rillito and offering them paid jobs. Positions range from admissions, the racing office, social media account to racing administration.
